Greater Kansas City Cellarmasters

Amatuer Winemaking

About Us

Welcome to the official website of the Greater Kansas City Cellarmasters Club.

The Cellarmasters Club is an organization dedicated to encouraging the appreciation of wine, fostering knowledge of home winemaking, promoting the responsible enjoyment of wine, and educating wine tasters, home winemakers, and viticulturists throughout the greater Kansas City area.

Founded in 1974, the club was the brainchild of Pete and Carolyn McMasters, who believed that making homemade wine did not have to be a solitary pursuit. The first meeting was held in their basement wine cellar and included Pete, Carolyn, and four close friends. What began as a small gathering of enthusiasts has grown into a vibrant community of winemakers and wine lovers.

Membership

Membership in the Greater Kansas City Cellarmasters Club is open to individuals in the area who are involved in or interested in winemaking. Our membership includes:

  • Professional winemakers
  • Vineyard owners
  • Experienced home winemakers
  • Beginning hobbyists
  • Spouses and partners who enjoy and support the craft

Whether you are just beginning your winemaking journey or looking to refine your skills, our experienced members are eager to share their knowledge, techniques, and expertise.

Monthly Meetings

The club holds monthly meetings that typically include:

  • Wine tastings
  • Appetizers and fellowship
  • Educational programs focused on winemaking and wine appreciation

Members who have earned awards often share samples of their winning wines and discuss the processes and techniques behind their success. At other meetings, members who have produced similar styles of wine may bring samples for side-by-side comparisons, allowing us to explore different approaches, methods, and outcomes.

Through education, collaboration, and camaraderie, the Greater Kansas City Cellarmasters Club continues its long-standing tradition of advancing the art and science of amateur winemaking.
